Nifty likely to open lower, Stocks in the news: BHEL, Vedanta, L&T, Jet Airways

Indian Indices:                             The Nifty50 is expected to open flat-to-negative on Tuesday following muted trend seen in other Asian markets. The index closed 83 points higher at 10,688 on Monday. Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for the broader index in India, a fall of 27.50 points or 0.26 percent. Nifty futures were trading around 10,666.50-level on the Singaporean Stock Exchange.


Global Market:
·       Asian markets- Asian markets are lower today as Japanese and Hong Kong shares fall. The Nikkei 225 is off 1.05% while the Hang Seng is down 0.59%. The Shanghai Composite is not trading.

·       US Markets: Across the US markets, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 58.67 points, or 0.24 percent, to 24,753.09, the S&P 500 lost 6.43 points, or 0.24 percent, to 2,721.33 and the Nasdaq Composite added 9.43 points, or 0.13 percent, to 7,433.85.

·       European markets- European markets finished mixed as of the most recent closing prices. The FTSE 100 gained 0.18%, while the CAC 40 led the DAX lower. They fell 0.61% and 0.58% respectively.


Major Headlines of the day:

·        Larsen & Toubro: The company allotted 1.63 lakh shares to employees under ESOP scheme. Its Q4 profit up 5 percent YoY at Rs 3,167 crore.

·        Rural Electrification Corporation: Q4 net profit down 37 percent on higher provisions.

·        Piramal Enterprises: Q4 net up 21 percent at Rs 375 crore

·        NTPC: Company's Q4 net profit jumps 41 percent to Rs 2,926 crore

·        Oil India Q4: Net profit up 22.9 percent at Rs 866.5 crore and revenue was up 5.1 percent at Rs 2,998 crore

·        NMDC Q4: Net profit at Rs 1,105.8 crore. Revenue was up 35 percent at Rs 3,883 crore.

·        Uflex Q4: Net profit down 27.6 percent at Rs 71.1 crore and revenue up 12.2 percent at Rs 1,817.8 crore

·        Aurobindo Pharma Q4: Net profit at Rs 528.5 crore and revenue at Rs 4,049.1 crore

·        Mercator Q4: Net loss at Rs 85.2 crore and revenue was down 57 percent at Rs 192.2 crore

·        DB Realty Q4: Net loss at Rs 82.3 crore and revenue at Rs 0.2 crore

·        REC approves proposal for incorporation of a project specific SPV, as wholly owned subsidiary of REC Transmission Projects

·        Wipro ties up with IIT-Bombay for fabricating formula electric


Trend in FII flows:The FIIs were Net Value of Rs  -795.06 in the cash segment MONDAY while the DIIs were Net Value of Rs 1017.65 as per the provisional figures.

Markets indicating a flat opening in line with Asian peers;

Indian Indices:                               
Indian markets are expected to trade sideways witnessing a consolidation after rallying in the past 8 consecutive sessions. SGX Nifty is currently trading flat up 0.5 points at 10,547. Indian markets are expected to trade sideways witnessing a consolidation after rallying in the past 8 consecutive sessions. The underlying trend in the market for the near term continues to remain positive.

Asian stocks gain in morning trade- Asian markets opened higher. Stocks rose, tracking the overnight gains in the US stocks, as focus shifted to corporate earnings, reports Reuters.
Global Market:
·       Major Asian markets are trading marginally lower, Nikkei is down 0.19%, Hang Seng is down 0.74% while Shanghai Composite is trading 0.26% lower.

·       US Markets: Stocks moved noticeably higher in yesterday’s trading session. The Dow surged 0.9% to 24,573.04, the Nasdaq climbed 0.7% to 7,156.28 and the S&P 500 ended 0.8% higher at 2,677.84.

·       European markets closed in the red yesterday with the FTSE closing 0.92% lower, CAC ended down 0.04% while the DAX ended 0.41% lower.

Major Headlines of the day:

·        Fortis Healthcare raises Rs150 crore debt to stave off bankruptcy-  Fortis Healthcare Ltd, which is weighing multiple takeover offers for its assets, has got a Rs150 crore bridge loan from Rattan India Finance amid a credit squeeze. Meanwhile the board of Fortis Healthcare would meet on Thursday to consider options after the company became the target of rival takeover bids, reports Reuters.

·        Adani Ports in pact to offer LNG regasification services- Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has signed an agreement with Indian Oil Corporation to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification services at its upcoming terminal at Dhamra in Odisha, reports Business Standard.

·        Uttam Galva offers to repay all its debt to banks- Debt-laden Uttam Galva Steels Ltd offered to repay its creditors in full, after its previous offer to pay back 51% of its dues was rejected last week. The steelmaker also sought time to arrange the funds.

·        Railways to spend Rs9,000 crore in 3 years on new wagons- The Indian Railways will spend Rs9,000 crore over the next three years to procure new wagons as it seeks to beef up its goods transportation services, reports The Economic Times.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were Net Value of Rs 308 the cash segment Monday while the DIIs were Net Value of Rs 28 as per the provisional figures.

CAPITAL STARS MARKET UPDATE:Markets indicate negative opening as global trade wars escalate;

Indian Indices:                                SGX Nifty indicates a gap down opening. Indian markets are expected to trade with a negative bias in today’s trade as global equities witness correction after China announced it is imposing tariffs on 128 imported goods originating in the US.

Global Market:
·       Major Asian markets are trading in the red. At the time of filing, Nikkei was down 0.91%, Hang Seng was down 1.04%, while Shanghai Composite was trading 0.90% lower.

·       US Markets: Stocks witnessed a sharp correction in yesterday’s trade with the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 falling to their lowest closing levels in almost two months. The Dow dipped 1.9% to 23,644.19, the Nasdaq corrected 2.7% to 6,870.12 and the S&P 500 ended 2.2% lower at 2,581.88. The sell-off on Wall Street was witnessed due to escalating trade spat between the United States and China. A sharp correction was also witnessed in the shares of Amazon after US President Donald Trump once again attacked the online retail giant on Twitter.

·       European markets were shut yesterday. FTSE 100 contracts also fell. The dollar was marginally weaker and Treasuries were steady. Oil held losses and industrial metals were higher in London.

Major Headlines of the day:

·        Motherson inks pact to acquire Reydel Automotive for USD 201 mn.
·        JSW Steel: In capacity of an investor, joins Numetal to submit bid for Essar Steel.
·        Ashok Leyland: CARE Ratings upgraded the ratings of its short and long-term bank facilities. Meanwhile, the rating of its commercial paper has been reaffirmed.
·        Fortis Healthcare: Minority shareholders of the firm are said to have opposed the deal with Manipal.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were Net Value of Rs -689.75 the cash segment Monday  while the DIIs were Net Value of Rs  413.16  as per the provisional figures.

Capitalstars Updates: Indices extend gains as Jaitley upbeat on economy growth

Indices extended its gains from the morning session. The Sensex is trading above 36,100 led by L&T and TCS.

FM Jaitley at the start of his speech emphasized on this year's budget being rural centric. The government committed to the welfare of farmers and also government will focus on farm and non-form employment generation, Jaitley added.

At 11:28 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 36,200, up 235 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 11,097, up 70 points.

Maruti Suzuki India has posted a 4.8% growth year-on-year in January sales, driven by compact cars and utility vehicles.

Shares of Fortis Healthcare fell around 10% after the Delhi HC verdict on Wednesday.

The broader markets were trading higher as the BSE MidCap Index up 0.10%, while the BSE SmallCap Index gained 0.87%.

Volatility index India VIX slipped 1.06% at 15.7600.

L&T (+3.3%), M&M (+2.3%), Indiabulls HF (+1.4%), TCS (+1.4%) and HCL Tech (+1.3%) and were the top gainers on Nifty50.

Vedanta (-1.7%), Infratel (-1.4%), Tata Steel (-1.1%), Lupin (-0.93%) and NTPC (-0.91%) were the top losers in today’s trade.

Out of 2,010 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,066 advanced, 522 declined and 422 remained unchanged today.

A total of 13 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 12 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Indian Indices:

The domestic equity benchmark indices are likely to witness a flat to positive opening today tracking soft cues from Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange and global peers. flat SGX Nifty Index Futures for January delivery, which were trading at 10,639 at 11:28 AM Singapore time, also signaled a flat to positive opening for the domestic equity bourses. On the IPO front, Apollo Micro Systems’ initial public offer will open for subscription today. The company fixed a price of Rs 270-275 per share. The issue will close on Friday.


On the stock front

• Shares of telecom stocks will remain in focus in today’s trade after the Telecom Commission has decided to relax spectrum holding caps for operators to pave way for M&As and spectrum sale to repay their debts.

• Shares of Yes Bank will be in focus as the bank is set to raise $500 million through dollar denominated bond sale to ramp up business. 
This fund raising is part of Yes Bank's $1-billion borrowing programme in the international capital markets.

Global Market:

• Major Asian markets are trading mixed. Shanghai Composite is up 0.30%, Hang Seng is up 0.20%, while the Nikkei is trading 0.22% lower.

• US markets: The major averages once again managed to end the session at record closing highs. The Dow rose 0.4% to 25,385.80, the Nasdaq inched up 0.1% to 7,163.58 and the S&P 500 ended 0.1% higher at 2,751.29.

• European  also closed in the green yesterday with FTSE up 0.45%, CAX up 0.66% and DAX up 0.13%.

Major Headlines of the day:

• State Bank of India (SBI) said it proposes to raise Rs 5,000 crore through long term bonds to fund affordable housing

• Infosys on Tuesday announced the successful conclusion of an Advance Pricing Agreement (“APA”) with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”). “

• NMDC said it has produced 24.23 million tonne (MT) iron ore in the first nine months of the current financial year, reported PTI

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were Net Value of Rs -303.94 the cash segment on Tuesday while the DIIs were Net Value of Rs 522.90 as per the provisional figures.
