At 10:35 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 34,358, up 204 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,619, up 61 points.
The Nifty Pharma Index rose 2% as investor sentiment remains positive on the hope of a recovery in earnings, led by more product launches in the US and better growth in the domestic market.
Shares of Jaypee Infratech rose nearly 10% on reports that Tata Housing and Lodha Group have filed initial bids to take over the company, which is currently under insolvency proceedings.
Shares of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Yes Bank were among the top gainers on the Nifty50 Index, while those of Bharti Airtel was the biggest loser.
Shares of Larsen and Toubro touched 52-week high after the company won orders worth Rs2,265cr.
Sobha's sales bookings increased by 92% to Rs750.9cr during the third quarter this fiscal on higher volumes and better average realization. The stock jumped 8%.
The BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap indices were up 0.97% and 0.78%, respectively.
Volatility index India VIX rose 2.74%.
Sun Pharma (+3.9%), Lupin (+2.8%), Aurobindo (+1.7%), Cipla (+1.6%) and GAIL (+1.5%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
Bharti Airtel (-3%), Asian Paints (-0.64%), Ambuja (-0.22%), HUL (-0.10%) and HCL Tech (-0.09%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,012 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,191 advanced, 441 declined and 380 remained unchanged today.
A total of 132 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while four stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
