The spot rupee recovered yesterday's losses and started the day higher by 16 paise at 66.86 as against the US dollar.
On Thursday, the domestic currency declined 13 paise at 66.02.
Right now, the spot rupee is down 15 paise at 66.87, due to fresh fall in US currency amid firm equity market.
Meanwhile, September futures are trading at 66.98 per dollar - up 14 paise.
Around 1,16,093 contracts have changed hands at the counter, while the open interest has increased 0.2 percent on the NSE.
Compared to the European-currency, the India rupee is also up 14 paise at 75.17.
